Spring is Near...Happy March!

Happy first day of March! March is a very encouraging month. The dead of winter has passed, and there's much to look forward to! Particularly my birthday/St.Patrick's Day on the 17th...
This spring is sure to be filled with excitement. The Sox look promising and the Celts and Bruins are primed to make playoff runs!
Who do you think has the best shot at winning a title in 2011? Sox, Celts, or B's??

AL/NL MVP Picks...

Who's your pick for the AL/NL MVP this season??

I've got Carl Crawford in the AL and Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies in the NL.

Crawford should really thrive in Boston and I'm sure we'll turn him loose on the bases.

CarGo seriously might be the best young player in the MLB. The kid is 25 and still has his best years ahead of him. There's no doubt he's going to turn a lot of heads and help the Rockies return to their '07 form.

Do you agree with my picks for MVP? Let me know who you think is going to shine this summer!

Are Red Sox Pitchers Overshadowed?

Sorry for the short hiatus. I was ill over the weekend and am just now starting to feel better.

Here's what I've been thinking about recently...

With the addition of a couple big bats to the lineup, as well as a return to health for several Sox vets, it's easy to think the powerful offense will lead us to the promise land.

But I really don't think the success of Boston this season is so much in the hands of the offense as it is on the pitching staff. Beckett and Lackey thus far look thinner and in much better shape overall than they were last year. Beckett has already said he put 2010 behind and 2011 looks much more promising.

Lester is a stud. Buchholz is a stud. Dice-K I could do without (it's my blog and I can say what I want!)

Honestly, I think the Dice-K acquisition was the biggest waste of money in the history of professional sports.

Ok, getting off my tangent...the Sox pitchers will be the sole reason we win the World Series or don't. Bold statement I know. But the offense will be there. The defense will be there. We need the rotation and bullpen to step up now.

What do you think?

2011 Predictions

All Sox fans can agree we had the best off-season we've had in a long time (maybe ever). But as of February 17, 2011 the Red Sox are 0-0. Just because the Sox look like the best team on paper doesn't necessarily mean that will translate onto the field...or perhaps it will.

I want to know what you think:
  • Will the Sox win the Division?
  • How will we fair against the Yankees and Rays this year?
  • Who has the best chance to win the World Series?
  • What player(s) will have an outstanding year and who will let their performance slip?

These are just some of the things I've been pondering recently and I'd like to know what everyone is thinking...

Let's Get Serious.

Okay. I've finally decided to give this whole blog thing a serious attempt. I've written about many topics over the years and have gone back and forth as to what my blog should be all about. The original Mac's Mind covered my experience in Beijing, China during the 2008 Summer Olympics. It was a huge success (and by huge I mean my family and close friends read it). I tried blogging about fitness and health. But I'm not a personal trainer and enjoy pizza and beer far too much. I felt hypocritcal. So what do I write about? What will interest the people? What is the one thing in life I'm more passionate about than anything? School? No. Career? Nope. My love life? Umm not so much. Boston Red Sox baseball?? Now we're talking. The Sox are my one true love. While I am a Patriots, Celtics, Bruins fan as well, the Sox rise above the rest.

This blog is hereby dedicated to the Sox. I'm not affiliated with Major League Baseball, the Red Sox, or any official media outlet so I'm going to keep what I report light-hearted, fun, and based solely on my correct opinion. I encourage comments, debate, and lots of jokes.

So let's get started.

The 2011 season seems quite promising. Everyone is healing from last year's injuries and the Sox have acquired some of the League's most premier talent in A-Gon and Carl Crawford. The addition of Bobby Jenks in the pen will also have a tremendous impact.

Everyday I read updates from Spring Training down in Ft. Myers and find myself saying "I hope the Sox [fill in the blank] this year!" So here are a few things I'm hoping for this season:

  • I hope Papelbon doesn't suck.

  • I hope Jared Saltalawhatever...let's call him Salty...can actually morph himself into a younger version of Jason Varitek.

  • I hope Pedroia's foot is 100 percent healed.

  • I REALLY hope Pedroia cuts that atrocious comb-over (his wife actually likes it??)

  • I hope Big Papi realizes the season starts in April and not July.

  • I hope Beckett and Lackey can rebound and keep the weight off (they both look trimmer!)

  • I hope Christina Aguilera isn't asked to sing the National Anthem at the World Series.

I'm very excited for the season to commence and you should be too! The Red Sox are going to be wicked awesome this year. Or at least I hope so.

Go SOX.
